Hiking journey in Fuego National Park

Journey report by BestHike editor Rick McCharles

Not like most parks in Argentina, there’s an entrance payment for Tierra del Fuego Nationwide Park. It was 480 pesos ($12.50) in 2019. However the ticket is nice for 1 or 2 days. And tenting is free within the park so two days is the higher worth.

There’s no cheap solution to get from Ushuaia to the Park. Most — together with me — e book a door-to-door shuttle return for 700 pesos. ($18)

On arrival on the Park I requested which of the four campgrounds was finest. One Ranger advised me Laguna Verde, so I had the shuttle drop me there.

That is Patagonia so I bolted the tent down actual good.

Day 1 I did quite a lot of straightforward day hikes. All nice.

Day 2 I headed over to the close by Alaskush Customer Middle to register (free) for the Cerro Guanaco path. You’re imagined to register earlier than Midday to be allowed to make the climb.

Guanaco is commonly closed as a consequence of excessive winds, as properly.

It’s 4km a technique. An elevation acquire of 973m.

To and from the Alaskush Customer Middle and again (to verify you returned safely) it’s about 15km.

You begin alongside beautiful Lake Roca. Completely calm the day I used to be there.

In Patagonia it’s quite common to have persistent rainbows. It rains so much.

Capturing them in a photograph just isn’t straightforward.

On the very high finish of February I scrambled the snowy summit for a dramatic end.

Nice hike. When you get to this park be sure you schedule time for the Guanaco climb.
