As the country gears up for summer which is when there would be a heavy influx of tourists, the government announced the new rules to allay fears that tourists will have in the wake of the pandemic. The local administration is promising to take care of hospital beds, drugs to treat the illness and also, it is planning to cover the expenses of the family member of whom the Covid-19 has been affected. Once they are better, tourists will just have to cover the expenses of their transfer to the airport and the cost of their flights back home.
The local government of Cyprus has already set up 100 beds aside for travellers and several quarantine hotels where family members of a Covid-19 positive patient can stay during their quarantine.
Countries like Thailand, Philippines, Mauritius, Maldives, Cyprus are heavily dependent on tourism and as many countries went under lockdown Cyprus faced a decline in tourism and the GDP was declined by over 15%. During the travel period from people of other countries, the authorities will be keeping an eye on infection and mortality.
