State’s New All-Road Bike Costs Less Than a Thousand Bucks

State Bicycles has been around for a few years now, mainly making very inexpensive single-speed urban bikes. They’re now moving into the decidedly non-urban bike territory with a new steel all-road (gravel) rig. Total cost, with either 700c or 650b wheels is a remarkably low $799. Or, you can buy complete with both sizes of wheels, and swap ’em out at your leisure, for $1,150.

The frame (a frameset is also available for $370) is 4130 Chromoly Steel, a nice choice at this price point where you’d expect aluminum. It comes with State’s in-house 1×11 drivetrain group, an 11-42t cassette, a threaded bottom bracket, tubeless compatible wheels, and thru-axles. They even throw in Panaracer Gravel King tires for that $799 cost. The brakes are, unfortunately, mechanically actuated disk brakes, but well, it’s $799.

That the bike costs so relatively little is already interesting, but more is is the option to buy it with both 700c and 650b wheels for only $349 more. The wheels come complete with tires, tubes, and rotors so you can switch from road to gravel riding with very little fuss.

The bike weighs in at about 26 pounds, which isn’t light of course, but it’s respectable. State’s bikes come with full 5-year warranties, too.

We haven’t ridden or seen one of these, but an affordable gravel/road rig is a welcome choice these days. Sure, the components aren’t top or even mid-shelf, but if you’ve been pondering a gravel ride but weren’t enthused about dropping serious money, this could be a chance. If nothing else, you’d have a lovely steel frame with which to bolt on all your own parts.

Hey there would you mind letting me know which web host you’re working with? I’ve loaded your blog in 3 completely different browsers and I must say this blog loads a lot faster then most. Can you suggest a good web hosting provider at a reasonable price? Thank you, I appreciate it!
