Day Three in Venice

Recently, Venice tourism department officials announced that come January 16, 2023, visitors who are visiting Venice on a day-trip will have to make prior reservations and pay a fee. The tourism department hopes that this step will help them to manage the huge number of visitors they see daily. In Venice, more often than not, tourists outnumber the local residents.

If your Venice visit does not include a stay at any of the hotels or lodges, you will be required to sign up online declaring the day of the visit. The fee amount will be subject to how advanced your booking is and whether or not you are visiting in the peak tourist season. The amount will range anywhere between 3-10 euros.

There will be a booking and payment system with QR Code, and you will be required to show this proof of payment if asked. Failing to do so will result in a fine which can even go up to 300 euros.

Also to note, visitors who have bookings with hotels and lodges need not pay the visiting fee.

Will it limit the number of visitors to the city? Yes. Will it make for a more wholesome Venetian experience? Also, yes. With the city not being overcrowded, you will be able to enjoy the city better, and not rushed.

Venice, Italy
If you are planning to visit the city on a cruise and are wondering if you will still have to make the reservation and pay the fee, the answer is yes. Even if you are visiting for just a few hours, as a cruise stopover, you will still need to make a reservation and pay. Unless, it is included in your cruise package.

Children below the age of six, specially-abled people and those who own vacation homes in Venice (provided, you can show proof of real estate tax payments) need not pay the fee.
