India travel news – Kaziranga National Park reopens for the season

Kaziranga National Park which is one of the important wildlife parks in India and is an important centre for conservation of One-Horned Rhinoceros critically endangered Bengal florican, Bengal tiger, Indian wild elephant, wild water buffalo and swamp deer, has been reopened for wildlife enthusiasts.

The national park was closed due to the annual closure for the Summer and Monsoon season has now been formally reopened by Assam’s Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and Sadhguru Jaggi Vasudeva of Isha Foundation reopened the park on September 24, 2022.

Generally, all national parks across India are slated to be opened around October every year, but Kaziranga national park opened a bit early this year.

This opening was a special one as three statues of rhinoceros were unveiled during the park’s opening ceremony.

Last year, on World Rhino Day, Assam Chief Minister along with Assam Police burned 2479 one-horned rhino horns that were seized from traffickers. This was done to show people that the Rhino horn does not possess any medicinal value.

The three rhino statues are made using the ashes from burning the seized rhino horns.

“The rhino statues thus created is an attempt to immortalise the efforts and dedication of those who selflessly protect Assam’s pride, the great one horned-rhinoceros,” said the Chief Minister.

At the opening of the park, Assam took one more step towards sustainability and being eco-conscious by signing a Memorandum of Understanding on the sustainable use of land and agricultural practices. The potential of ecotourism was also discussed.
