Surrounded by mountains in the northern highlands, four resorts designed with a touch of traditional ethnic minority style are perfect for those wanting to gaze across a sea of white clouds.
Rock Garden Sapa Homestay in Hang Da Village in Sa Pa is at an altitude of 1,700 meters above sea level, making it an ideal location to hunt for white clouds. The resort is about 25 minutes from downtown Sa Pa by car but the road to reach the resort is quite challenging with dangerous slopes.
The resort takes inspiration from traditional ethnic minority design and its homestays are mainly made of wood and rock. A night’s stay costs from VND1.3 million ($54.41).
Each room here is designed with transparent glass windows so visitors can easily view the clouds and terraced rice fields along Muong Hoa Valley. The resort is not far from Fansipan Mountain Peak, Sa Pa night market and other tourist attractions.
Mong Village Resort & Spa in Y Linh Ho Village in Sa Pa carries a distinctive architectural style inspired by the Hmong ethnic minority. All rooms have balconies allowing aerial views of white clouds and rice terraces.
All bungalows feature wooden roofs and stone walls that carry unique cultural feature of the Hmong. From balconies, visitors can take in breathtaking views of Muong Hoa Valley and traditional stilt houses. It has a restaurant that can accommodate up to 150 people at a time.
In addition to cloud-hunting, visitors can trek into dense jungles, try signature dishes at Sa Pa flea market and visit the Stone Church. A night here costs from VND2.8 million.
Silk Path Grand Sapa Resort & Spa, also in Sa Pa, opened its doors to tourists in November 2017 and is one of the most ideal places to hunt for clouds.
The resort has 152 rooms that offer views of rice terraces or white clouds. A night’s stay here costs from VND2.1 million.
While staying at the resort, guests can experience bathing in medicinal herbs grown by the Red Dao minority. Using a secret blend of leaves and bark collected in the wild, the Red Dao have created a formula for a soothing hot bath in a wooden barrel that they claim will ward off sickness and help women recover immediately after birth.
Built atop a mountain in Yen Dinh Commune in Bac Me District, Ha Giang Province, P’apiu Resort features a 1,700-meter-long road colorfully hand-painted by hundreds of resort staff and local people with typical brocade designs. The resort is also unique in that all its staff are local ethnic minority residents.
The resort has three villas designed in different styles. Its Mellow villa, built with mud walls, replicates an accommodation tradition of the Hmong people in Ha Giang while the Fluffy villa is a completely wooden structure on the top of the mountain, allowing visitors to easily watch seas of white clouds drift by. The remaining villa is built underground.
Each day the resort only welcomes a maximum of three couples, making it one of the most ideal places to escape the crowds. A night’s stay cost from VND11 million.
